The Thornes Park Lake
Taken from the Thornes Road gate
There was at least one winter when the lake was frozen solid for several weeks (1947?) & so became a staff-supervised playground for winter sports! These seemed to consist largely of sliding-type games for the suitably shod. And a deal of turning blue with minor frostbite for those unshod or unwilling.
